A Guide to Pre-Ride Inspections for Powersports Vehicles

Whether you’re hitting the trails, going on a hunting trip, or just exploring the great outdoors; a powersports vehicle is a great addition to your time spent outside. But given the amount of physical impact powersports vehicles take on, it’s important to make sure they’re in good shape before you head out riding.

Here are a few key tips for a successful pre-ride inspection of your powersports vehicle!

Read the Owner’s Manual

Make sure to read through your owner’s manual, to stay up-to-date on your vehicle’s specific needs. While there are some general points to be aware of for any inspection, your manual might provide product recommendations, maintenance schedules, and other information that pertains to your specific vehicle.

Check the Fluids

Remember to check the quality of all your vehicle’s fluids before riding. These include the engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and fuel. Additionally, make sure all fluids are properly filled and topped off to ensure a safe riding experience every time!

Conduct Performance Checks

Check that your air filter is clean, in order to promote healthy airflow through your engine. Also, remember to test your vehicle’s suspension when possible. If the filter is too damaged or your suspension is worn down, you may require a service visit before riding.

Check the Tires and Tracks

Use a tire pressure gauge to make sure your tires' PSI (pounds square inch) matches the recommendation in your manual. You also need to measure the tread depth against those recommendations, looking for any signs of cracking or damage to the side walls. It’s never safe to ride on a compromised tire. Additionally, if your vehicle relies on tracks, make sure they have the right level of tension before your next ride!
