Regular maintenance can go a long way towards helping your ATV to last longer and perform at its best. However, you won’t be able to perform even the most basic maintenance task without the correct tools. That is why LeMond’s Motorsports has created this list of basic ATV service tools.

Allen/Hex Bit Sockets

Your ATV has many fasteners, but the majority of them will most likely be hex heads. You have two options when it comes to hex head fasteners. Option one is a set of L-shaped hex keys, which are good for detailed work but often make it difficult to get leverage. Option two is hex-head sockets, along with a few ratchets of different sizes to complement them.

WD-40

If you are having trouble with stubborn screws, WD-40 can be a lifesaver. This oil helps to lubricate and clean the screws for easier removal. 

Multimeter

This device will be helpful if you plan to work on your ATV’s electrical system. It measures electrical conductivity throughout your vehicle, allowing you to pinpoint where your system is losing performance. As an aside, always take proper safety precautions when working with electricity. 

Tire Pressure Gauge

Maintaining proper tire pressure can go a long way toward increasing tire performance and lifespan. Luckily, basic tire pressure gauges are extremely cheap and easy to find. 

Screwdrivers 

Screwdrivers are a vital part of any service kit. Make sure that you have both Phillips-head and flathead screwdrivers in multiple sizes. 

Wrenches

There are several different types of wrenches, all of which can be helpful when servicing your ATV. For example, standard solid wrenches have a variety of uses, while a crescent wrench will make removing a fastener of an unknown size much easier. Some other wrench types that can prove useful include Allen wrenches and vice grips. Purchase as many different wrenches as you think you need, though bear in mind that if you don’t know how you will use a particular wrench, it will likely just become a source of clutter.
